Red Scarf Project

As I was reading a friends blog http://www.therubyjewel.blogspot.com/ I came across a project that called for a knit or crocheted scarf to be donated to The Orphan Foundation of America and their "Red Scarf Project". The project was described on the Craft Hope blog http://crafthope.com/ with all the specifications and details as well as the address to send the donated scarves. The Orphan Foundation serves thousands of foster teens throughout the U.S. They launched the Red Scarf Program in 2005 to send red scarves to warm the heart (and necks) of college bound youth. The Craft Hope blog does share a specific pattern if others would like to join in and knit or crochet a scarf although it can be any design within their specifications.

The scarf size: Approx. 60" long and 5-8" wide. Scarves should be long enough to wrap around the neck as well as tie in the front.

Style: Think unisex collegiate. Ask yourself if your son, brother, husband, etc. would appreciate the scarf. Fringe is optional

Yarn: Something soft. No mohair as some people find it itchy.

Colors: RED! However, this could mean burgundy, cherry, red stripes with other colors, or multicolor hues including red. Other unisex colors including black, navy, teal, olive, and gold are also welcome.

Finished and Tagged: For a personal touch, include a tag that says 'Handmade for You' with your first name, city, and Craft Hope.

Send to:
Orphan Foundation of America
The Red Scarf Project
21351 Gentry Drive
Sterling, VA 20166

Deadline: February 14, 2010

I will definately be sending in a RED scarf to help warm the heart (& neck) of a young person in America and possibly a few others. If you or someone you know is skilled in kitting or crochet please join this great cause to help warm America!

Under Wraps - Updated with Pictures

Back in December I posted about the t-shirt quilt I had made for my sister for Christmas. As soon as I finished the quilt I put it in a box and wrapped it with all the other Christmas Gifts and forgot to take a picture. Here are the pictures of the finished product (front & back). As you can see the larger logos and sayings create the majority of the quilt and the pocket sized images join the four corners of the large squares.

Taking a look back...

Most of my posts have been about what I have made recently, but I wanted to take some time to post some of my purses and bags I created over the past few years. I always try to take a picture of all the bags I have made just so others can see what is possible and for my memories! Several of these purses/bags pictured were custom-made with something/someone specific in mind (I had to get creative with things when certain fabric wasn't available or was more than I wanted to pay...so I used crib sheets, t-shirts, pajama pants, etc for some of the fabrics). I used to walk through the fabric department at Wal-Mart (back when each store had one) and Hobby Lobby almost weekly to buy fabric for my "next purse/bag". My mind was always thinking of what patterns I could use together and how I could improve my designs. Over time the demand for these bags began to fade away so I took a break from sewing these specific items unless specifically requested. I have become inspired again with the recent news of several friends expecting children, but this time I would like to try some new styles. For now here are the pictures from the past few years!

Jewlery Bags

This simple drawstring jewlery bag is perfect for any trip or for everyday use. On the inside you will find several small pockets so you can keep your bracelets, necklaces, rings, & earrings from getting tangled together while they are stored. Inside lining is created with accent fabric of similar colors for added flair! Each bag is custom made so, if you see a fabric or know of specific colors you want just let me know! These make great teacher gifts too!
